Our Mission

FCC Wayne exists for two important purposes: to love God and to love people. That’s the entire point of the Bible, according to Jesus Christ himself. So, our purpose is to do both of those things the best we can. As we learn more how to live as God’s children and grow in our faith, we become better equipped to shine as LIGHTS in this world. We believe that each soul has equal value and that God loves all people, regardless of any of the differences that separate us. We endeavor to live with open minds, open hearts, open arms, and open lives in our community, sharing the Good News by our actions.

Our History

Established way back in 1848, FCC Wayne has been a fixture in this community for over 175 years. The members of this congregation have seen the landscape of this area change literally and figuratively over the decades. We have been a steady presence in the same location, right off Michigan Avenue in the heart of the city center. Even though the facilities have changed, our commitment to sharing the Good News in Wayne has remained the same. Our early leaders believed in equality and freedom, moving them to participate in the Underground Railroad and helping to move enslaved individuals to safety. Boy Scout Troop #1736 has been meeting here at FCC Wayne since 1940, a relationship that spans 84 years and counting. The Red Cross used our facility during both World Wars, along with the Red Cross Blood Bank. We can trace our lineage directly back to the actual Pilgrims on the actual Mayflower, so our collective experience is woven into the fabric of America. When our ancestors came to this new land, they were seeking the freedom to worship without interference and to promote the freedom to think and believe as one’s own conscious would dictate. Now in the 21st century, we also believe in freedom thought and personal responsibility in our faith. We stand on the principles of our past as we forge a new path for the future.
